Muthaiga Golf Club’s Greg Snow made good use of his home course advantage, to claim a tight victory in the 3rd leg of the 2018 Barclays Kenya Open qualifying events on Thursday.
During Thursday’s final round, Snow, who is chasing one of the 18 slots reserved for the Kenyans Pros, started off with a five at the down-hill par four –first hole, then suffered two more bogeys over the short hole fifth and par four sixth before picking up a double-bogey seven at the long par five-seventh.
He however managed to claim one back at the eighth to cross to the back nine with a rare four over. The back nine looked bright and most promising when he made an eagle three at the par five-10th only to drop one at the par three-11th. All was not however lost as a birdie at the 13th and pars all the way to the home green saw Snow sign for two over par 73 to complete the four day events with a total of three over par 287. He missed the cut last year by three shots after rounds of 73, and 72 and with the Open taking place at Muthaiga again this year, Snow, has a good chance of proving his prowess.
Dismas Indiza on one over par 72 remained in second place with a total of four over par 288. He equally had a poor start in the fourth day where he picked up four bogeys at the front nine though he improved at the back nine with an eagle at the start of the nine and a birdie at the closing hole. Mathew Omondi and Nicholas Rokoine were six shots adrift on 294.
The 4th leg of the qualifiers, organised by Professional Golfers of Kenya (PGK), will be held at Royal Nairobi Golf Club next week.
Kenya has been given 22 slots for Pros in the 2018 Barclays Kenya Open. Dismas Indiza, Simon Ngige, Rizwan Charania and Stefan Andersen, who has been playing in the Sunshine Tour in South Africa, have already qualified. The Pros taking part in the qualifiers are therefore fighting for the remaining 18 slots.
