Dismas Indiza, no doubt Kenya’s best professional golfer produced a fine round of five under par 67, to claim the second leg of the Barclays Kenya Open qualifying series at the magnificent Sigona Golf Club course on February 1.
A long hitter, Indiza seems to have mastered the quick Sigona greens as he fired six birdies in the opening nine of the par 72 course, starting with his first birdie at the first hole before making them five in a row from the fifth hole.
This game him a low six under par 30 in that nine though a bogey at the 15th, a par five spoiled what would have been his first bogey-free round this year. “ I putted well today I suppose because I was now used to the greens though I real want to work on my game seriously between now and the Kenya Open’’ said Indiza who was among the three Kenyans who managed to make the cut in the 2017 event at Muthaiga.
His final round 67 gave him an impressive total of 10 under par 278, to beat Kopan Timbe of Muthaiga by four shots. Timbe dropped a shot at the second nine and remained one over up to the ninth par five where he was able to level the nine. He went one under at the 14th only to drop two shots at the 16th and 18th for the day’s 73 and a total of 282.
And since the winner Indiza has already qualified for the open, Timbe took the 18 points for the Sigona event. Meanwhile it was not a smooth day for round three leader Nelson Simwa of Vet Lab who shot four over par 76 to drop to third place with a total of 185 though five shots better than Brian Njoroge.
The pros now move to Windsor Golf Hotel and Country Club for the third leg from February 12 to 15.The Sigona edition was sponsored to the tune of Sh100,000 by former Muthaiga chairman Edwin Kinyua.
